一句話的翻譯思路分享

忙於翻譯群的作業批改，一直沒有好好發文，今天就分享一句話的解析吧。出自“一起學筆譯”第3期第1周的英譯漢練習。

這篇文章選自《經濟學人》，講的是巴菲特讓位給其繼承人的事兒……

翻譯思路解析：

1。 時間狀語比較簡單：多年來。

2。 整句話主幹是：the question 。。。 has been 。。。 the subject 。。。。，即：這個問題是。。。的主題。

3。 主語核心詞the question後面跟了同位語從句，說明question的內容，到底是個什麼問題。

同位語從句本質上又是一個疑問句：

Who would the feted investor anoint as his successor to run the giant conglomerate？

即：這位備受關注的投資者會讓誰來接手這家大公司呢？

這個同位語中有3點需要說明：

a。 who為什麼用whom？

因為主語是the question

of

。。。，作者用of介詞引出question的具體內容，of前後互為同位語。因為of是介詞，後面需要跟賓格，所以who變成了whom。

b。 原文為什麼不是who

would

the 。。。 investor anoint as 。。。，而是whom the feted investor

would

anoint as 。。。？為什麼would沒有緊跟特殊疑問詞？

因為這是主語核心詞的同位語

從句

，疑問句做從句要用陳述句語序。更嚴格來說，整句話應該是：the feted investor would anoint whom （sb。） as 。。。。但畢竟是疑問句，所以保留特殊疑問詞在句首，只把would放到了主語後面。

4。 整句話有兩層意思：

第一層：這位備受關注的投資者會讓誰來接手這家大公司呢？

第二層：這個問題多年來一直都是董事會會議室裡閒聊的話題。

整合翻譯：

譯文1：這位備受關注的投資者會讓誰來接手這家大公司呢？這個問題多年來一直都是董事會成員閒聊的話題。

官方譯文：
