【合肥英語】：“十分驚人”用英語怎麼說？
正「絞盡腦汁」地思索今天要分享什麼呢，開啟朋友圈，發現我昨天轉發的文章下面有一條來自英國朋友的“評論”。乍一看，著實嚇著寶寶了：
That article is

直到我看到他寫的最後一句話：

【深度解析】
其實這個沒有什麼好解析的啦。看字面意思就能看出，這不就是我們漢語裡也常說的“壓垮駱駝的最後一根稻草”嘛。
說到這裡，不得不引申出英文中與“抓住救命稻草”相對應的慣語啦。
clutch/grasp at straws
（注意straw為複數形式）
to be willing to try anything to improve a difficult or unsatisfactory situation， even if it has little chance of success

這個慣語源自於小孩們玩的競爭性遊戲，玩遊戲獲得勝利的孩子可以得到可口的餅乾作為獎勵。小孩的心是非常單純的，所以這個習語對於小孩而言可以理解成表示“獲勝，得獎”。但是大人們往往會把事情想得複雜，有人偏偏要從中找出一些諷刺的含義，於是就有人用“take the biscuit”來諷刺這種行為“極其討厭”。所以，如果你的外國友人獲勝了，可千萬別說“You really took the biscuit/cake！”因為演化後的此慣語只有一個意思：“極其討厭；十分驚人；令人難以置信”。稍微思考一下就能想到為什麼，如果兩個意思都有，那豈不自相矛盾了麼？這個慣語只適用於口語哦。它跟我在《鄭爽教會了我們哪些英語表達》這篇文章中提到的“

”意思相近哦。不過也可以用來開玩笑，diss好友哦。

【深度解析】
這個慣語源自1770年倫敦市長Brass Crosby對抗國會的大膽行為，而十分巧合的是“brass”本來就有“boldness”（大膽冒失）或是“brazeness”（厚顏無恥）的意思。這個慣語雖在劍橋詞典上備註為： old-fashined，但是不管在英國的日常生活中還是刷劇中，我都會偶爾聽到不同年齡段的人使用它。這個慣語也可用來diss好友哦。
