聽許冠傑的發音更偏向於xuang，有捲舌感。而張國榮發音更接近於不分平翹舌的sang。

因為現代廣州話本來就不分平翹舌，所以是怎麼說都可以。這也是為什麼現代穗港人兩種音都有發的原因……這並不說明現在穗港人還能分這兩組字。廣州話的平翹相混已經有一百多年的歷史了（發生則是在足有160+年以前），只是各種教材和詞典都稍微有點滯後所以才有

的「1950年才合流」的誤解。不存在所謂一個確切的“平翹合流年”，那個完全是胡扯，語音變化作為自發現象沒有這樣的準確性的。（何況假使真是1950年好了，1948年9月初才出生的人你希望他能習到多少1950年前（時年1歲6個月）的語音？）“上”字的準確發音是soeng，其中oe的發音約等於普通話yue的e。現代廣州話的趨勢是j ch sh常見於i和圓唇母音前，其他多發z c s。

真正分（=合流未完成/發生）的話要比方說用聲母分“少”“小”（粵拼均siu2）、“支援”“資瓷”（粵拼均zi1ci4）、“川”“村”（粵拼均cyun1）、“想”“賞”（粵拼均soeng2）、“長者”“蔣姐”（粵拼均zoeng3ze2）、“深圳”“心鎮”（粵拼均sam1zan3）、“修復”“收復”（粵拼均sau1fuk6）、“一式”“一息”（粵拼均jat1sik1）、“扇”“線”（粵拼均sin6）、“精”“蒸”（粵拼均zing1）、“宗”“中”（粵拼均zung1）、“三”“衫”（粵拼均saam1）等等才算的。
