記住："ten to one"不是“從10到1”,別翻譯錯啦！

在做俚語翻譯時英文翻譯成中文不能，按字面意思來直譯，不然句子翻譯出來，難免會鬧出笑話來，皮卡丘今天舉的例子就是：

1、Ten to one 十有八九，很有可能

one two three……從一數到十可以說是英語學習基礎中的基礎。在學會26個英文字母之前，大多人對這10個數字就已經是倒背如流了。

“ten to one”從表面上來看是從10到1，但若要真的這樣翻，很容易鬧笑話ten to one = something very likely，可以翻譯成“很有可能”或是“十有八九”From one to ten才是“從一數到十”

例：

①Ten to one the teacher made a mistake。

很可能老師犯了一個錯誤。

②No one knows for sure how they‘re going to deal with this problem， but ten to one it’s I who have to be responsible。

沒有人確定他們將如何處理這個問題，但很有可能我會對此負責。

nine times out of ten這個也能表達：“十有八九”

例：

Nine times out of ten， you can fix it。

你十有八九能夠修好它。

2、be in two minds(⊙o⊙)…猶豫不決；拿不定主意

這個短語聽上去也很形象，直接翻譯過來就是“在兩種想法中”，其實就是徘徊不定，拿不定主意的意思。

例：

①My parents want me to study medicine， but I‘m still in two minds about it。

我父母想讓我學醫學，但我還沒拿定主意。

②I am in two minds about whether to get a dog or not。

要不要養狗，我在猶豫不決。

3、one in a million可能性極小的/唯一的/鳳毛麟角

例：

Don’t worry - the chances of anything going wrong are one in a million。

別擔心——出問題的可能性極小。

在這種語境下，one in a million，就是“唯一”的意思啦

4、it takes two to tango一個巴掌拍不響，雙方都有責任

tango/ˈtæŋ。ɡoʊ/探戈舞，字面意思是：跳探戈舞需要2個人，要跳好tango那不容易，兩人需要默契，互相配合才是，若是兩人不同心，你踩我，我撞你，矛盾就出來了，所以常用It takes two to tango，表示“一個巴掌拍不響”。

例：

The wife blames her husband for the break up of their marriage， but it takes two to tango。

妻子把她們婚姻的破裂歸咎於她的丈夫，但是一個巴掌拍不響，兩個人都有責任。

5、three sheets in the wind 酩酊大醉

sheet有個詞義是指航海船上固定船帆的繚繩，沒有繫緊，船就會搖搖晃晃，和醉漢的形象十分接近，於是就成了水手的口頭語。

a sheet in the wind，就是指微醺；

three / four sheets in the wind就是酩酊大醉，醉得不省人事

例：

After only three beers， Pikachu was three sheets in the wind。

三杯啤酒下肚，皮卡丘就醉得不省人事。

6、three score and ten 古稀之年

score在英語中是“二十”的意思，儘管這一習語中的數字加起來是七十，但在引喻中只是泛指老年而已。

例：

I’ll love you three score and ten。

我會愛你一輩子。
