範文正文

Friends always provide us with physical and spiritual support no matter what situations we are in。 Therefore， the indispensability of friends in our life has led many to assert that we should always try to keep our old friends as they can help us when we have difficulties。 However， I insist that it is more important to make new friends than it is to keep our old friends。 （68）

To begin with， we can learn from the different perspectives of new friends and hence broaden our horizons。 Since we always encounter people of various backgrounds， making friends with these people endows us with the opportunity to socialize with people who have different life experiences and hold multifarious world views。 In the process of our communication with these new friends， we will enrich our understanding of the world and our thoughts towards life。 For example， I once made friends with an exchange student in my school。 At that time， I was deeply impressed by her stories about her religion and her Christian belief in the relations of life， death， and God。 This experience of mine exemplifies the importance of making new friends in helping us acquire new experiences and explore the world。 （132）

Furthermore， making new friends can also help us integrate into a new environment more quickly and smoothly。 In this ever-changing and rapidly developing society， we always have to deal with changes in the environment we spend our time in and with it， the people around us。 Therefore， it is essential for us to make new friends to acquire information about and obtain a sense of belonging to the new environment， and only then can we flourish wherever we are and whoever we are with。 For instance， my friend Clara only transferred to our school last month。 However， as she is always outgoing and willing to make friends， she quickly became intimate with all of us and is already appointed the English rep by our teacher。 Hence， readily making new friends is especially important in today’s society where people always need to cope with a new environment。 （148）

However， some detractors might declare that keeping our old friends is much more important for they understand us the best。 Having known us for many years， old friends are supposedly people who know us and care about us the most。 Therefore， some argue that old friends can better help us when we encounter obstacles。 Although it is undeniably true that old friends are also precious， I maintain that making new friends is more important。 With globalization and urbanization， the mobility of the population nowadays has made it impossible for us to always stay with our friends。 As such， our old friends might not be able to know everything happening in our lives。 In this sense， new friends are more likely to be the ones who understand and can help us the best at present。 Thus， it is more important to make new friends than to keep our old friends。 （149）

In conclusion， although old friends are also precious， making new friends is more important for it helps us to broaden horizons and integrate into new environments。 Only when we properly allocate our time to socialize with old friends and new friends can we optimize the meaning of our interpersonal relationships。 （50）
