宋五大名窯中的鈞窯，歷經千年窯火而不熄，時至今日，當初的五大名窯，江湖中名氣最大的無疑是鈞瓷。

鈞窯瓷器的胎質相比汝窯瓷器，厚重堅實但不乏細膩，扣之有聲，清脆而圓潤。鈞瓷以其獨特的釉料及燒成方法產生的窯變神奇而聞名於世，以其“入窯一色，出窯萬彩”的自然窯變特點廣受陶瓷愛好者喜愛。對於鈞瓷的商業價值，鈞州（今河南禹州一帶）民諺：“進入西南山，七里長街現，七十七座窯，煙火遮住天，客商天下走，日進斗金錢”。

鈞瓷釉色是自然窯變的釉色，所謂窯變是指瓷器在窯內燒成時，受多種因素影響，出窯後，呈現意想不到的色彩效果。具體說是同一種釉料、同一器型、同一種施釉方法在同一個窯爐內燒製而出現各不相同、千變萬化的釉色或意境，有“入窯一色，出窯萬彩”、“鈞瓷無對，窯變無雙”之說，是人意不可為的純天然形成，恰似“月夜望星空，暉暈自然成”。每一件精美的鈞瓷窯變色彩都是獨一無二的存在。
