在英文中一個單句只能有一套主語和謂語，而兩個句子如果要放在一起，則必須用連詞來連線。在上面這句話中，however是一個副詞，所以它不能用來連線兩個句子。

怎麼改？

如果改成but，這句話就對了，因為but是連詞：

I am ugly， but I am gentle。✅

如果要用however，則可以改成以下兩種形式：

I am ugly； however， I am gentle。 ✅

可以看到第一句話後面用了分號或者句號，在英語當中分號和句號一樣，可以分隔兩個句子。這裡however後面需要加逗號，因為它修飾整個句子。
