追根溯源 | 英國瓷器發展簡史
瓷器型別軟膏瓷（soft paste）
為了模仿以“白色黃金”著稱的中國瓷器，佛羅倫薩的美蒂奇家族在1575年至1587年之間成功燒製了第一件軟膏瓷器——美蒂奇瓷，它的主要配方是：長石，磷酸鈣、石灰粉以及石英。

經過改良，1673年在法國魯昂燒製了更為精美的軟膏瓷，被稱為“法國瓷器”。

硬膏瓷（hard paste）
硬膏瓷誕生於1000年前的中國，它的主要配方是高嶺土、矮牽牛花、瓷土、瓷石。這一配方的發現使得中國成為瓷器的代名詞。隨著17世紀歐洲中心主義的淡化，西方人越來越渴望異國情調，透過對東方物品的收藏來展示修養及品味，隨後整個歐洲陷入長達幾個世紀的瓷器狂熱中。

到了1710年這一配方被德國Meissen研製出來，同時結束了東方瓷器在歐洲獨領風騷的地位。

軟膏瓷與硬膏瓷的配方截然不同。相比硬膏瓷，軟膏瓷的缺點很明顯：低硬度導致低成品率，以及在使用的過程中極易損壞。
英國瓷器發展
1567年，兩位荷蘭陶藝家為英國帶來了錫釉陶器的生產方法，這種型別的器皿被英國人稱為“代爾夫特陶器” delftware，並於17、18世紀在倫敦、布里斯托和利物浦的推動下迅速發展起來。

到了18世紀，代爾夫特陶器被英國的瓷器中心斯塔福德郡Staffordshire製造的更為精美的瓷器所取代 。

當時大多數英國工廠都在使用玻璃類軟膏，只有一個品牌例外：新霍爾New hall（1782-1835），這是十八世紀英國唯一的硬膏瓷製造商，它是由Staffordshire地區的5位陶藝家組成了一個聯盟。

18世紀末，當 New hall 的混合硬膏 hybrid hard paste 專利到期後，許多工廠開始使用它的配方，並試圖改進。
到了19世紀初，斯波德 Spode 將骨灰粉混合加入硬膏，成功研製出骨瓷配方。

因此在英國的瓷器史上，硬瓷僅存在於18世紀末如曇花一現的時間，隨後所有的瓷器工廠都轉向骨瓷生產。
